Kelli Harrison’s first political experience came before she had a union card. As a child, she watched watched adults raise their voices against industrial development they believed would damage their town. Iron Worker Local 63 member Paul Goodrich joined America's Workforce Podcast to share his journey in recovery and seeking mental health support in a trade where physical pain, long hours and injury are common.
Paul's union health coverage and access to treatment was decisive in helping him get sober and rebuild his life. For Paul, taking that first step in recovery was not an isolated medical event, but part of a broader support structure that included rehabilitation, therapy and a workplace culture that is becoming more willing to talk openly about mental health.
That's the union difference.
